Captain Forever be Droppin Mad Beats.

…Or to be more accurate, “grand-internet-musician” Andrew Leys has composed a great 8-bit-reminiscent theme for the new browser game Captain Forever from indie-maker Farbs- creator of the neat retro-game-mixup “ROM CHECK FAIL“. This dope beat from outer space can be found edited in the release trailer for Captain Forever or in it’s full glory here.

This is great example of accidental viral marketing, as the circulation of the tune, and what it’s evoked in me, has peaked my interest for a game that I had no idea existed. After taking a look at the official website and the weird backstory they have as to why you’re able to control Farbs’ ship in your web browser, I’ve got to say that while I’m not exactly sure what Farbs is going for with this over the top, “barely put together” site, he’s really hit the nail on the head. The strange sense of awesome hopelessness in Farbs’ words, along with the tragic tune, is starting to make me want that $15 “prerelease” deal- which basically grants you VIP access to the initial game, that will eventually be free, and all future projects on the site- and then it had to go and win “Best Game” at GDC China’s Independent Games Festival.

The game’s like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts in its use of free-form vehicle editing. But it’s in space. And you have to edit your vehicle on the fly. While fighting off “boosters and jackers”. So basically you’ll start a round as a literal broken-heart-in-a-box (yes, this game is indie), but you could end up looking like the Destroyer of Worlds here with some smart building. If this concept doesn’t excite you in the pants then leave the Technology Goat and never come back. Just kidding. Listen to Goatcast.

It’s starting to look like my hands are tied, but it’s not too late for you. If you don’t feel the immediate need to try Captain Forever out, be the smart consumer and wait for the free game so you know you like it, it’s worth the extra $5 you’d be saving with the faith-package. Keep her safe. www.CaptainForever.com (Flash)
