Left 4 Dead Survivor Mode, in my opinion, completed the game. Everybody loves the part in each chapter where you have to either wait for an emergency door alarm to stop sounding while getting bombarded with the infected or wait for a rescue chopper to pick you up off a zombie infested hospital roof top. These points in the game are by far the most pulse pounding, thrilling parts. That is why I was glad to hear that Valve was to be bringing free downloadable content called survivor mode to us all.Survivor mode is the all of those moments in each chapter plus a bonus level called Lighthouse. What you do is pick the Survival area and start setting up. They give you all the necessary items such as pipe bombs, pills, gas tanks and extra ammo. Once you and your team are set up in a corner, or in a hard to get spot, you start the timer the same way you start these intense moments in the story, by either conducting a crane, calling for help (but it never comes), or doing something else to annoy the horde.
While Francis is explaining how much he hates Lighthouses, you and your team will be constantly bombarded with a stream of suicidal infected. You can earn a bronze, silver, or gold medal on each of the levels depending on how long you can survive. Bronze for four minutes, silver for seven, and gold for a painful ten. Oh and trust me this is not one of those games where they make it easy to get a gold. As more time goes by the more tanks spawn, therefore making your inevitable death come even quicker. See graph that explains click here. Yes some levels are easier than others. However, your success (well not really because you die no matter what) mostly depends on the coordination of your team, setting up traps, and holding out in the right spot. Just make sure that you don’t set yourselves on fire with all the gas cans supplied.
Also you get the option to play the two remaining campaigns in versus mode that they didn’t give you in the beginning. I give Survivor Mode the Tecgoat two thumbs up, a worthy buy (of no cost) that will definetly keep you entertained for a long long time.
